Mineral-rich hard water not only has an adverse impact on our health, and it causes scale buildup around faucets and drain pipes. I wasn’t even aware that high magnesium or calcium content in water could be the reason behind clogged pipes in my apartment. So when I found it out, I started looking for quick fixes on the internet and end up pinning on this product. Now, unlike many of you, I already knew quite a bit about water softeners, especially being a chemistry student.
The Aquios FS-234, which I’ve been using for a while now, hasn’t lagged in performance for a single day so far. If you’re planning to purchase one for your house too, this water softener cum filter model might just be the answer to all your questions. As the name suggests, it not only balances out the amount of minerals in water but purifies it too, ensuring optimum health for everyone.
Features in a Nutshell
- Aquios uses a food grade polyphosphate additive called siliphos to prevent and curb scale deposit on your bathroom and kitchen fixtures. This too without affecting the water’s fitness for consumption.
- Its whopping 60000-gallon capacity renders it suitable for small commercial buildings and large sized residential complexes.
- The filtration system effectively removes chlorine from the water which is often the main culprit behind that foul smell and bad taste.
- Since it’s not a salt-based unit, the only maintenance task involves changing the cartridge within 4-5 months.
- Incredibly low installation time.Never thought a water softener could take (roughly) just an hour to install.
What I Liked
Hard water minerals weren’t just making my life miserable by causing scale build-up around the fixtures. My brand new water heater got partially damaged due to this. After installing FS-234, I could physically feel the difference it was bringing. Excess calcium and carbon in water leave a greasy feeling on your body after bathing. The richness of minerals makes the water look cloudy and heavily affects the slathering power of soaps. All these problems were no more to be noticed after I started using this unit.
Use of Siliphos
One of my cousins happens to work in a famous water softener manufacturing company. When I asked him whether siliphos is safe to be used for water softening, his answer was comforting. It helps the scale build-up causing minerals to dissolve at a high temperature without disrupting the ideal amount of mineral in the water.
Salt-based water softener systems still rule the market. It wasn’t easy for me to be assured of the quality of an alternative technology. I’ve to say, the makers at Aquios left no stone unturned to ensure that the salt-free system just works as good as the salt-based counterparts. The unit works on 4.5-inch cartridges which have to be replaced within 4-5 months. I used the last batch of cartridges for 6 months straight without any issue.
The water filtration system of this machine is an added perk. Besides removing hard water minerals, it also filters out the organic impurities, bacteria and most of all, chlorine. You will get rid of the bad odor and taste in your drinking water. If you think about it, this is going to save you the money of buying a separate water purifier or drinking gallons of mineral water.
Things I Didn’t Like
Although it claims to be a whole house water softener for large houses, I’ve chanced upon buyers with large families not very satisfied with the product. What I have come to gather from talking to them is that it will work best as a supplemental water softening system for huge families.
The Bottom Line
Aquios FS-234 is not a flawless water softener, but its advantages easily let you overlook its minor drawbacks. The customer service of Aquios is excellent. If you face any issue with the product, chances are that the customer care executives will do their best to solve your problem as quickly as possible. Hope this review clears all your doubts about this product.
