Some people stay clear from buying water softeners fearing that it will completely demineralize the water. The reality is water softeners (at least the good ones) just remove the excess hard minerals from the water. High levels of magnesium, carbon, and calcium in water lead to those slimy, greasy scale build-up around the bathroom fixtures. Only if that was all. It is also capable of damaging the heating element of dishwasher and water heaters. The best thing about Aquasana EQ-SS20 is that it doesn’t perform its designated task using tons of chemicals.
Since I was living alone in my apartment after moving to California, I was too reluctant to take the responsibility of a salt-based system. But on the other hand, my previous encounters with salt-free softeners haven’t been good. After a lot of research and recommendation, I decided to give this product a try. Here goes my honest take on EQ-SS20:
- It uses Aquasana’s patented SLOW PHOS water softening technology which is an ideal alternative method to salt-based water conditioning. It basically changes the ionic charge of hard minerals to prevent attraction between the molecules. The altered ionic charge stops the mineral molecules from sticking to each other, resulting in a reduced scale deposition.
- The use of salt-free technology ensures that your drinking water doesn’t get exposed a high level of sodium. Too much intake of sodium can lead to high blood pressure and many other health problems.
- Much lighter on the pocket than most other salt-less water softeners in the market. Compare several products within your budget side by side, and the difference will be clearly visible to you.
- The unit comes equipped with a water filter as well.
Aquasana is a highly reputed brand of water softeners. They have built a huge and loyal fan base for themselves all over the globe. Now the question is – did the industry-leader live up to the expectation with this product?
This was the very first thing that convinced me to set aside my doubts and go for this model. The appliance uses an NSF certified SLOW PHOS technology that conditions water by changing the ionic charge of the hard minerals. It won’t demineralize the water with chemical infusion, keeping both your health and environment unharmed. Being a salt-free unit, it doesn’t impact the pH level of water. Therefore, the water can be used for the growth of plants as well as many other applications without causing any trouble.
The unit can handle up to 50,000 gallons of water with one set of cartridges and aids the excellent flow rate of 7 gallons per minute.
Rigid yet Lightweight Construction
I simply abhor the sight of rusted tanks and fixtures in my house. To my great delight, EQ-SS20 features a corrosion-resistant tank that actually combats corrosion for a long time. The overall structure is sleek and compact. Nothing visually stunning about the looks, but looks are not even a priority in this context.
The lightweight design makes it really fuss-free to handle during installation. You must be thinking since it’s an advanced model, the maintenance process must be very complicated. Well, you’re surely in for a treat then. The filter is meant to last for decades, and the cartridges will deliver for almost six months.
Not suitable for particularly large houses.
EQ-SS20 is everything bachelors like me and house-owners with small families can ask for. Although it’s nowhere near being a very cheap deal, the near zero maintenance, and a low running cost will save you a lump sum in the longer run. Considering the abundance of features and great performance, calling it a full value for money purchase won’t be an exaggeration.
